4. Brunelleschi’s Dome: How a Renais­sance Genius Rein­vented Archi­tec­ture by Ross King

My mother gave this to me one year for the hol­i­days and it started my love of books by King.  It’s a his­tor­i­cal book that looks at how Brunelleschi is awarded the con­tract to build the dome of a cathe­dral.  And what a dome it is.  King tells how Brunelleschi devel­oped spe­cial tech­niques to con­tinue build­ing while mor­tar was still set­ting and var­i­ous other ways to improve the build­ing meth­ods of the time.

My love of archi­tec­ture also made this book one of my favorites and a trea­sured keeper.
