Title: Eternal Vigilance III – Bound in Blood
Author: Gabrielle Faust
Publisher: Immanion Press
Date (to be) Published: September 2010
Synopsis: (for the series)
What if the fate of humanity lay in the hands of one vampire?
After a century-long Sleep, Tynan Llywelyn has awoken to find the world he once knew utterly obliterated by a brutal war of epic proportions. In a new apocalyptic society bitterly divided by magic and technology, the Tyst Empire has found that a hundred years of global domination is not enough to sate their thirst for power. They have discovered the secret of the vampire race and have designed a plan to seize their own sinister form of immortality with the help of an ancient vampiric god. The Phuree, a rebel uprising that has been engaged in a bloody war with the Tyst since the beginning of the new regime, have obtained the knowledge of Lord Cardone’s plans and have allied themselves with the remaining Immortal clan. The powerful Phuree oracle, Nahalo, has had a vision that in Tynan alone lies the power to defeat the vampiric god and the dictatorship. Cast in violence and conspiracy into the midst of a global war between magic and technology, mortals and vampires, in a new world he is still struggling to define, Tynan must make the harrowing decision to save the world he so bitterly detests or stand and watch as humanity is destroyed by a primordial evil beyond all imagining.
Eternal Vigilance sweeps the audience away with the darkly poetic, ancient voice of Tynan Llewelyn into a gritty and violent future where humans and vampires are forced to work hand-in-hand to save the world from annihilation, where technology has evolved far beyond the control of its creators and the barriers that separate the mortal realm from the world of the gods has begun to crumble. This ground breaking trilogy will ensnare your heart and soul, leaving you breathless and quietly pondering our universal fate, once the sun has gone down…
Synopsis: (for Bound in Blood)
When Tynan Llywelyn awoke from a century of Immortal Sleep in the year 2111 his Maker, Phelan Daray, delivered him by force into the arms of a war between the Tyst Empire, a global technological dictatorship bent on becoming immortal by resurrecting a vampiric god called the Vicinus and the Phuree, the human rebel uprising. Without a chance to fully adapt to the dangerous war-torn world around him, Tynan was forced to make a horrific choice to either stand and fight against the Tyst Empire, carrying out a mission to assassinate the Queen bearing the vampiric god, or turn his back on the world, leaving it to the mercy of the Tyst’s greed and the Vicinus’ revenge. Against his better judgment, he chose to fight.
Now, with the rage of a thwarted empire and a denied primal god bearing down upon him, Tynan must make his final stand, risking everything to save not only his own vampiric race, but humanity as well.
Where Did It Come From?
I bought it from Gabrielle at ArmadilloCon.
Why Did I Choose It?
After reading the first two in the series, I could not wait for the third to be available and I was not to be disappointed.
My Review:
Faust’s imagery is so vivid that it’s hard at times to separate her descriptions from your own imagination as you are drawn into the world of the Immortals, Phuree, Tyst, and Chronos. The third book in the series picks up where the second left off, and it doesn’t stop until the very last page. This was a book that I couldn’t read fast enough and yet I found myself tasting it word by word as if it were a treasure to be savored and not devoured. It is rare that a book will elicit reactions from all the senses as the author weaves their tale, but Faust certainly has this extraordinary ability. At a time when vampires sparkle in the sunlight, it’s a breath of fresh air to have some truly unique and enticing Immortals to lust after.
As you might guess, I highly recommend this book and the series in its entirety. My only question for you is why haven’t you read it yet?
Now that all three are available, pick them up and lock yourself away for a weekend if it even takes you that long to consume them. You will want more of Faust’s writings as well as more of the characters you will grow to love. I can only wait for what comes next from Gabrielle Faust.
