Synopsis: (from Bloomsbury)
Be careful who you let in the door … they may not want to leave
Lucy Sexton is stunned when a disheveled woman appears at the door one day…a woman who bears an uncanny resemblance to Lucy’s own beautiful mother. It turns out the two women are identical twins, separated at birth, and raised in dramatically different circumstances. Lucy’s mother quickly resolves to give her less fortunate sister the kind of life she has never known. And the transformation in Aunt Helen is indeed remarkable. But when Helen begins to imitate her sister in every way, even Lucy isn’t sure at times which twin is which. Can Helen really be trusted, or does her sweet face mask a chilling agenda?
Filled with shocking twists and turns, THE TWIN’S DAUGHTER is an engrossing gothic novel of betrayal, jealousy, and treacherous secrets that will keep you guessing to the very end.
Where Did It Come From?
I received this from Bloomsbury as a preview copy.
Why Did I Choose It?
It sounded like a quick mystery to run through.
My Review:
This book, while I was at first expecting a somewhat typical mystery, had such a fantastic twist ending that it has risen well above my expectations. The story is told by Lucy, the daughter of Aliese, who’s twin sister appears on their doorstep many years later. It seems that Aliese does not know of the existence of her twin sister, Helen, and the circumstances by which her twin was raised. The story unfolds and while I was led to believe the conclusions that Baratz-Logsted wants the reader to come to, despite my best efforts, I was not even close to the actual outcome of events. The characters are believable, their motives quite easy to understand, and yet, it all seems somewhat fantastical when it finally comes to a head. And yet, I could see this story as being something that truly could have happened.
I feel that this book is worth the read. It’s a great mystery with a little bit of a love story and full of vigor.
