Daphne is the new girl in town and is having trouble fitting in. At least she has Jesse… sort of. He wants to be more than “just friends,” but there’s something he’s not telling her about his past. Something dangerous. When a female student is brutally attacked, police turn to PROFILE, a new program that can predict a student’s capacity for drug use, pregnancy, and violent behavior, to solve the case. As the witch hunt ensues, Daphne is forced to question her feelings for Jesse–and what she will do if her first love turns out to be a killer.
I actually stopped by the Sourcebooks booth during the BEA for a different title, Alice in Zombieland, but I wasn’t able to speak with anyone about that title. I happened by the YA section, and saw this. Thankfully, Danielle was there to tell me all about this book and suggest I read it. I’m so glad she did. At times I felt like I knew what was going to happen, but then it would throw in a twist that I hadn’t thought of and keep me going to the very end. I loved that it took an idea like this and really fleshed it out. I felt that it was believable, and well written.
I truly liked that this book gave you a lot of food for thought. It wasn’t just a story that you read and forget. I’m waiting on my friend to finish reading it so we can discuss it. The concepts brought forth in this book were well researched and thought out. Not to give anything away, but at the very end there is a discussion about the type of violent crime someone is supposedly predetermined to commit and whether it is premeditated, spontaneous, or self-defense and if that is also predictable. Quite interesting I must say.
I hope you add this to your wish list. It’s available for pre-order on Amazon and other sites now, and is scheduled to hit the shelves in September. Feel free to check out Christine Seifert’s blog or her Facebook profile for more news as the title nears it’s release.
